All guide books highly praise life on the islands of Don Det and Don Khone. Getting lazy in a hammock, reading a book, watching the boats and fishermen on the Mekong... Getting lazy? Easier said than done with 3 young children running around, playing, screaming and arguing. We only had a short stop on Don Khone. It is probably a great place for couples or solo travellers, but there is little to see and do for the youngest ones.
We enjoyed the boat to and from the island and a long (too long?) walk on the isles on Don Det and Don Khone. We viewed the abandoned locomotive on the side of the ancient railway track and walked on the long bridge that connects the two isles. It's been a nice stop but we kept it short.
